Zhou Yi is a talented cellist. She had her solo debut at Lincoln Center with the Mannes Orchestra in 2012 after winning the Mannes Concerto Competition. She also won the first place of the Elise-Meyer-Stiftung Competition in 2007. In 2014, she had her debut at John F. Kennedy Center as one of the three musicians selected for representing the New England Conservatory of Music.

 

Yi appeared as a soloist with Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Mannes Community Orchestra, St. Thomas Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, and Xi'an Symphony Orchestra. She has a CD published including seven great Chinese cello solo pieces, which is an important milestone of Chinese cello music. 

 

Yi is also an enthusiastic chamber musician. She participated in the Marlboro Music Festival, Yellow Barn Music Festival, Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, and Beijing Contemporary Music Festival. Her “Vitas Quartet” performed in Jordan Hall (Boston) as an honored ensemble. 

 

Zhou Yi started her cello playing at the age of six. She received her Music degrees from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the Hamburg Conservatory of Music, Mannes College The New School for Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Min Cao, Marcy Rosen, and Laurence Lesser.

 

She just arrived in the California bay area mid 2014.
